BBNA Board Meeting Minutes 7/10/2024

Meeting Date: 7/10/2024, 5:30 p.m. @ Bonnie Brae Baptist Church

Board Members in Attendance: Steve Weiner (Chairing), Nancy Bell, Dave Anderson, Lisa Rorden (Scribe)

Upcoming Food Truck Night (7/14)

  • Nancy has confirmed attendance of two trucks
  • Steve has confirmed Bonnie Brae ice cream supply (Nancy has toppings etc)
  • Dave has projector/related materials for movie and has already put up reminder signs
  • Lisa has texted the Bonnie Brae moms group with a reminder
  • Nancy working on getting a sprinkler to help mitigate high temps

Communication re: New Development on University Blvd.

  • Dave has already loaded the Developer’s slide deck onto the neighborhood website
    • Link to slide deck will be shared in next newsletter
  • Include a timing update in the next newsletter pending update from developer (current understanding is September project start)
  • Neighbors in attendance expressed concerns about increased traffic in the area and parking along Bonnie Brae Blvd.

Neighborhood Safety

  • Suspicious Activity
    • Neighbors in attendance expressed continued concern about suspicious/unsafe behavior occurring at rental property located at BB Blvd and Josephine
    • Any concerned neighbors should contact the DPD non-emergency line
    • Board will reach out to our assigned Community Resource Officer
  • Alley Traffic
    • Neighbors in attendance expressed concern regarding increased traffic and speeds in alley (including delivery and construction vehicles)
    • Steve W. will add to issues list for Kashmann’s office
    • Bill to add note in next newsletter advising caution and speed reduction in alleys

ADUs

  • Steve Ferris raised the issue of increased City support for ADUs and Council’s plans for an ordinance authorizing the same
  • Consensus amongst those in attendance was low level of concern, given that the trend in municipalities that have broadly authorized ADUs has been use for family and guests rather than rentals

Neighborhood Paving and Maintenance

  • Paving project is nearing completion
    • Elizabeth street remains
  • Residents at BB Blvd & Josephine raised concern of standing water/drainage issue where Josephine meets BB Blvd, exacerbated by paving projects
    • Steve W. to conduct visual inspection of the area of concern and reach out to our contact at DOTI
  • Various park maintenance issues:
    • Trees need pruning; stairs need to be redone; insufficient watering
    • Nancy will reach out to Board’s contact at Parks & Rec
  • Compost bins have still not been received
    • Steve W. to add to issues list for Kashmann’s office
  • Steve F. suggested focusing more effort on improvements to and design continuity for commercial stretch of University Blvd.

Fall Picnic

  • Board members to coordinate roles via email based on Nancy’s list (7/9 email)
